Andreas Claussen paints surreal post-apocalyptic landscapes that balance humor, symbolism, and emotional depth.

Andreas Claussen is a German oil painter whose visually striking works explore the fragility of human existence through the eyes of a solitary astronaut. Best known for his ongoing series FLOOD, Claussen constructs dreamlike scenarios in which this faceless figure navigates a world submerged—both literally and metaphorically—in the consequences of modern civilization.

With a background in law and intensive artistic training in California, Claussen combines conceptual precision with painterly confidence. His compositions are filled with narrative tension, rendered in bold colors and textured surfaces, often infused with a quiet wit that disarms the viewer while provoking reflection.

In FLOOD, the astronaut encounters cultural relics like inflatable flamingos and sinking monuments, acting as both witness and wanderer. Through these images, Claussen investigates resilience, loneliness, and the absurdity of survival—without ever losing sight of beauty or hope.

His works have been exhibited internationally, including in Los Angeles, New York, Munich, Hamburg, and Lisbon, and have been featured in Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, American Art Collector, and Creative Boom. Claussen’s unique visual voice continues to evolve through painting, publication, and an expanding international collector base.

At APANAGE, we represent Andreas Claussen for his exceptional ability to merge visual storytelling with conceptual clarity. His FLOOD series, with its wandering astronaut and submerged landscapes, captures the poetic absurdity of our time—offering images that are at once haunting, humorous, and deeply human.

Claussen's work speaks to a generation navigating crisis, climate anxiety, and disorientation, yet does so with restraint, painterly excellence, and an unmistakable sense of irony. His paintings operate as narrative paintings for a post-digital world—rich in metaphor, cinematic in tone, and accessible without compromising depth.

We see in Claussen a singular voice: a painter whose universe is technically masterful, emotionally attuned, and culturally resonant. His commitment to craftsmanship and conceptual purpose makes him a vital part of the APANAGE vision: to make contemporary relevance visible, one image at a time.
